Mentryville was a historic oil boom town now ghost town. Mentryville consists today of a historic one room schoolhouse built in 1885, a 13 room Victorian Mansion built sometime between 1891 and 1893 and a mule barn built in 1887. All these buildings are in dire need of repair.

Mentryville neglect
Currently the organization that owns Mentryville is the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. They acquired the property in 1997 after chevron donated it to them. Although they take good care of the wildlife, they do a horrible job with the structures. For example, the Pico Cottage which is the 13 room mansion on the property, beautiful house that could be restored as a house museum with period antiques. The problem is that the conservancy wants to use the house as a movie house. The house was built over 100 years ago. It's just stupid of them to neglect the house like that. They are always painting it and moving things around. That is not ok to use a historic house like that especially if Mentryville is on the state historic site list.
